Gyobutsu-ji is an small, idyllic Zen monastery in an especially rugged part of the Ozarks. The abbot Shoryu is part of the Sawaki/Uchiyama/Okumura lineage, so there is a strong emphasis on zazen practice without many of the additional trappings common at other places of Zen practice. It's an exceptionally peaceful place to practice Zen, and Shoryu is an excellent teacher with deep knowledge and a serious commitment to the zazen. If you are interested in spending a few days (or more) doing zazen, this is a great place to do it.

If you want to practice zazen without using (or...wasting) time doing super funky esoteric rituals I think that's a perfect place.
